Project Vision

Trakr is an achievement app that allows users to upload achievements in gaming to a centralised location and to share with other people around the world.

Challenges

Competitive analysis

To build a concrete foundation for Trakr, I had to compare the current applications and platforms on the current market related to gaming records and e-sport analytics. I concluded on the mutual features each app had which made it as functional as possible, as well as features that may have been left out which Trakr can leverage and take advantage of.

I found that only one of my four main competitors had some sort of user profile and personalization which can be capitalized on to give users a sense of pride in their achievements. Accolades tied to a user can then be made into a social networking app where other users can share and find out the achievements a person has in their gaming careers.

Meet the users

Pen & Paper Wireframes

Before moving onto high fidelity wireframes and prototypes, I wanted to determine what the core of the app would look like.

Wireflow

Grasping the interconnection between all screens fully determines how a user traverses through the experience and to complete the user journey that is intended for the app.

CHALLENGE 1

Creating a centralized location to find achievements

People want to have a centralized place to find achievements and results without having to rely on multiple sources to provide bits and pieces of the information.

CHALLENGE 2

Aligning structural elements to reduce heavy text-based layouts

Seeing structural designs that is hard to interpret are usually lists or anything that is heavy text based.

CHALLENGE 3

Validity of data and information

Seeing results that are wrong or incorrect shows validity of the data and makes it hard to read.

CHALLENGE 4

Search functionality allows for efficient usage

Results submitted by users from all around the globe should be found easily to cut any bad user experience.

Style Guide

Using the magenta pink instills slight aggressiveness to show pride and dominance in the games that users achieve well in as well as not being too harsh to show other players they are capable to learn and grow. Black and white are standard colors to distribute harmony and open space in areas of the application.

Takeaways

Being a gamer myself, working on Trakr was rewarding in the sense that it can potentially be a platform that will showcase achievements for people like myself and other fellow competitors to display to the world. I got to experiment with some of Figma’s features, and drill down on my design process. The features that will need to be added will be based on user interaction such as commenting, private messaging, and notifications. Needless to say, this was a great project to work on.
